Digital apps lead remittance preferences

About 70% use digital apps to send remittances.

Digital applications are now the leading method for sending and receiving remittances in Singapore, according to Visa’s Money Travels: 2025 Digital Remittances Adoption Report.

The study, based on feedback from 44,000 respondents across 20 countries, shows Singapore standing out for high adoption rates, speed, and strong perceptions of security.

In 2025, 70% of Singapore respondents said they use digital apps to send remittances, whilst 75% use them to receive funds — amongst the highest rates in Asia Pacific.

Two-thirds of Singapore respondents also see digital payments as the fastest way to access funds, with 67% citing speed for sending and 66% for receiving.

Moreover, 38% of senders and 33% of receivers reported that remittances are directed toward accounts or investments.

Meanwhile, 27% of senders said their transfers are made to support general or specific humanitarian needs.

Singapore respondents also ranked digital apps as one of the most secure ways to transfer money, with 44% of senders and 42% of receivers expressing confidence in their safety.

Convenience is also highly valued, with 51% of both senders and receivers noting ease of use as a key advantage.

However, high fees remain a concern, cited by 32% of both senders and receivers.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
