Alibaba Cloud Computing to launch new HQ, data center in Singapore

It will be unveiled in early September.

Alibaba Group’s cloud computing arm--known as Aliyun--will establish a new data centre and headquarters in Singapore.

The data centre is scheduled to be launched in early September and will be Aliyun’s seventh facility globally. The other facilities are in Beijing, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Silicon Valley.

Aliyun will also establish its headquarters for overseas business here. The Singapore cloud data center will cater to the cloud computing needs of businesses investing.

"Singapore is a natural destination to be our headquarters for overseas expansion. The city state is a natural springboard into the Asia Pacific region, not only for us, but for our target audience. We are seeing healthy demand for cloud-related data management services in Singapore because of the ease of doing business, comprehensive transport and telecommunications connections and robust intellectual property regime. The stable geo-political climate and abundance of highly skilled talent are advantages too," said Sicheng (Ethan) Yu, Vice President of Aliyun.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
