No reason to believe DeepSeek obtained chips from Singapore: report

The company said its Singapore shipments were insignificant.

United States-based company Nvidia stated there is no reason to believe that DeepSeek obtained any export-controlled products from Singapore, according to a press release by The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).

This comes after questions arose over whether DeepSeek gained access to Nvidia chips subject to United States export controls through intermediaries in Singapore.

According to Nvidia, Singapore accounts for about 22% of its revenue. However, most shipments associated with Singapore revenue were to locations other than Singapore, and Singapore shipments were insignificant.

The company also explained that many of these customers use their business entities in Singapore to purchase chips for products destined for the US and other Western countries.

“We expect US companies to comply with US export controls and our domestic legislation. Our customs and law enforcement agencies will continue to work closely with their US counterparts,” MTI said.
