STT GDC launches first South Korea data centre with 30MW IT load
It was developed through a joint venture with Hyosung Heavy Industries.
ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has launched STT Seoul 1, its first data centre in South Korea, with full commercial operations beginning in June.
The facility, located in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, has about 40,000 square metres of gross floor area and supports up to 30 megawatts of information technology load.
It is designed for hyperscale and enterprise deployments, including high-density workloads.
The data centre was developed and is operated through a joint venture between STT GDC, which holds 60%, and Hyosung Heavy Industries, which holds 40%.
South Korea is a key market for digital infrastructure, supported by enterprise digitalisation and growing demand for computing capacity, STT GDC said.
“STT Seoul 1 establishes an important foundation for STT GDC’s presence in Korea, extending a globally consistent platform into a key Northeast Asian market,” said Charles Chulhoy Huh, Country Head, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Korea).
In a separate announcement, the group expanded its Indonesian data centre campus with the launch of STT Jakarta 2 and new development phases for three other facilities.
The facility features dual 22.9-kilovolt power feeds, a redundant configuration, and backup generators that can operate for up to 24 hours without refuelling.
The centre also has a cooling system designed to support power usage effectiveness of below 1.3 and includes thermal energy storage for continuous cooling.
Moreover, it uses a seven-layer physical security framework, including intelligent video analytics and biometric authentication.
STT Seoul 1 has achieved LEED Gold certification.
