When love bites: Local startup creates ‘private space’ for couples online

Love is just a click away as here comes a Facebook-like app for couples.

Lovebyte, a Singapore startup which started operation in April 2011, aims to help couples to keep their relationship strong (and possibly improve them) by creating an avenue for them to spend more quality time together even when apart.

According to co-founder Amelia Chen,  LoveByte is designed to enrich the relationship between couples by creating a private space for both of them to easily communicate, share and store memories. It also encourages couples to spend more time together offline by recommending interesting date ideas and things to do.

“In simple terms, LoveByte is like a Facebook for couples,” she said while noting that In the iPhone App Store, Lovebyte was ranked #1 in Lifestyle category on National Day in Singapore and also ranked as one of the Top 25 apps in Singapore.

“Within a month, we’ve accumulated 20,000 downloads for the app. To us, it is an indication that people love the idea. So far, users have given feedback and they find value and meaning in the app. The element of surprise when scratching off the scratchcard to reveal a date is exciting, and receiving sweet notes from their loved one instantly makes their day. The app even counts the number of days they have been together as a couple,” she added.

Chen said that the app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The management is currently working towards releasing the Android version soon.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
