Locals not welcome at the casinos?

The government revised the casino control advertising regulations to ensure casinos do not target at the local domestic market.

Said market includes all Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and foreigners living in Singapore.

The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the Casino Regulatory Authority have tightened the Casino Control (Advertising) Regulations to prevent past events like the free shuttle buses from the heartlands, casino-related promotions at community getai events, and website announcements of winners from happening. This is according to Acting Minister Mr Chan Chun Sing who said they will not hesitate to take the casino operators to task should they contravene the regulations.

The scope of the CCAR has been expanded to cover not only advertisements but also promotions. The latter refers to membership drives, rewards and loyalty programmes, lucky draws and contests which are currently not covered under the regulations. The casino operators are required to seek prior approval from MCYS for all casino advertising & promotions, interviews & media releases, and community sponsorship.

Mr Chan Chun Sing said, “The casinos are meant to be tourist products and should remain so.”

Casino operators who contravene the CCAR shall be liable upon conviction to a fine of up to $100,000.
