A*STAR and Siemens sign MOU for ASEAN smart manufacturing

The partnership aims to help companies improve resilience, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and Siemens have signed a memorandum of understanding to support the development of smart and sustainable manufacturing solutions in Singapore and the broader ASEAN region.

The partnership aims to help companies improve resilience, efficiency, and environmental sustainability by advancing access to industrial artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and digital tools.

As part of the collaboration, Siemens will serve as the first technology partner for ASTAR’s Smart and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (SSAM) Catalyst—an innovation sandbox housed at ASTAR’s Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC).

The sandbox offers a platform for companies to test and develop new solutions across the manufacturing lifecycle, from design and engineering to operations and maintenance.

The initiative brings together a range of capabilities including automation, electrification, industrial software, and AI.

According to A*STAR, the sandbox is designed to help businesses adapt to evolving industrial challenges such as supply chain complexity, resource efficiency, and sustainability compliance, particularly in sectors such as aerospace, fast-moving consumer goods, biomedical, and semiconductor equipment manufacturing.

In parallel, Siemens is also working with the A*STAR Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE²) on targeted research to explore how digital twin technology and automation can support decarbonisation efforts in the chemicals and energy sectors.

The collaboration aims to demonstrate how digital solutions can help optimise production processes and reduce project timelines in complex industrial environments.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
