Chart of the Day: Inbound M&A hits all-time high at US$36.8b in 2017

It surpassed the record in 2012 by 115.6%.

This chart from Thomson Reuters shows foreign acquisitions targeting Singapore-based companies reached the highest-ever annual period at US$36.8b this year, surpassing the 2012 record of US$23.6b.

Singapore inbound mergers and acquisitions (M&A) surged 115.6% value compared to last year, as number of deals grew 3.4%.

Meanwhile, Singapore outbound M&A totalled US$22.4b so far this year, up 10.5% in deal value compared to 2016 despite the 3.2% decline in the number of outbound acquisitions.

The United States is the most targeted nation for Singaporean overseas acquisitions in terms of value and deal count. Singapore’s overseas acquisitions in the United States reached US$6.5b so far this year, up 140.9% in value and accounted for 28.8% of the market share.
