Singapore’s Investor Movement Index dips to lowest in 2022

Investors were exercising more caution as they brace for a possible recession.

Singapore investors have notably turned more conservative in their investing behavior and exposure to the US market, according to stockbroker TD Ameritrade.

The Investor Movement Index (IMXSM) for TD Ameritrade’s Singapore clients dipped to its lowest in 2022 in October, measuring at only 3.96 for the month from the previous score of 4.17 recorded in September.

“Generally speaking, it appears clients are continuing to exercise caution and limit their exposure to the markets on account of the uncertainties surrounding the possibility of an economic recession and persistent inflation,” said Greg Baker, CEO of TD Ameritrade Singapore. “With these factors spurring clients to adopt a risk-off approach, we’ve continued to see the IMX score in Singapore dip, now to an all-year low.”

Popular stocks bought by investors were: Tesla Inc. (TSLA); Microsoft Corp. (MSFT); Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD); Amazon Inc. (AMZN); and Apple Inc. (AAPL).

Popular names sold include: Netflix Inc. (NFLX); Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM); PayPal Holdings Inc. (PYPL); Roblox Corp. (RBLX); and Warner Bros Discovery Inc. (WBD).

In October, the total IMX for all of TD Ameritrade clients measured 4.25, down from 4.47 in September.
