Health ministry suspends Cordlife’s blood banking license

Cordlife is suspended from collecting, testing, processing, or storing new cord blood units.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has suspended Cordlife Group Limited from collecting, testing, processing or storing new cord blood units (CBUs) with effect from 26 November 2025.

This is after Cordlife responded to an intent to suspend its license from MoH.

After considering Cordlife’s response, the firm had not adequately addressed the concerns raised during MoH’s audit in July 2025 to the cord blood banking service, the MoH said in a statement.

It failed to address that its services are done in a safe and ethically appropriate manner, and Cordlife requires time to address the outstanding issues, it added.

Cordlife is suspended from collecting, testing, processing and/or storing new cord blood, conditions that will remain even if Cordlife renews its licence in January 2026 and until it meets the regulatory requirements for cord blood banking services, the MoH said.

This is to ensure that the firm continues to meet its obligations under the Healthcare Services Act and the safety of CBUs already stored with Cordlife by existing clients.

The MoH also maintains the earlier directions to Cordlife, including to replace its current clinical governance officer and review all laboratory records of the approximately 160 CBUs collected since January 2025, it added.
