Mitsubishi Power, Jurong consortium bags contract for 670-MW combined gas turbine

The plant, expected to open in 2029, is set to be the largest battery energy storage in the city-state.

Mitsubishi Power and Jurong Engineering Limited (JEL) have been awarded an engineering and construction contract by PacificLight Power Pte. Ltd. (PLP) to develop the largest combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility in Singapore.

Located on Jurong Island, Singapore, the 670-megawatt (MW) facility is set to be the first CCGT unit in Singapore integrated with a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) once it operates in 2029.

It will be capable of powering more than 965,000 four-room flats and can operate on 30% hydrogen. The unit is expected to run entirely on hydrogen in the future, Mitsubishi Power said.

The new CCGT power plant will use Mitsubishi Power’s M701JAC gas turbine with hydrogen co-firing potential.

The gas turbine boasts more than 64% combined cycle efficiency and proven reliability with three million operational hours.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
