OCBC launches upskilling programme for mortgage specialists

They can now advise home loan customers on investments and insurance.

OCBC Bank has launched an upskilling programme to turn senior mortgage specialists into certified wealth advisors.

After a four-month intensive training, participants can now advise home loan customers on investments and insurance, expanding their traditional role.

The move aligns with OCBC’s focus on wealth management. Mortgage specialists historically only handle home loans, while certified financial advisers provide wealth solutions. By combining these roles, OCBC aims to deliver seamless service, reduce hand-offs, and strengthen customer relationships.

According to the bank’s data, home loan customers hold twice as many products with OCBC and have 1.6 times higher assets under management compared to those without home loans.

Fifteen senior mortgage specialists have been selected so far.

The first batch of nine, averaging nine years’ experience, completed the programme and began their new roles on 1 October 2025.

The programme consists of three key components. The first is classroom training, which covers wealth products, portfolio construction, fraud detection, and client engagement through case studies and role play.

The second component is industry certification, where participants earn CMFAS certifications that validate their advisory skills in portfolio management, asset allocation, and compliance.

The third component is on-the-job coaching, with mortgage specialists receiving real-time guidance from product experts during client meetings.

Graduates will also undergo annual refresher courses to stay updated on developments in mortgage and wealth management.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
