PM Wong cites strong partnership in success of Marina Bay Sands

He led the groundbreaking ceremony for the MBS expansion project.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasised that the strong partnership between Singapore and Las Vegas Sands was instrumental to the success achieved by the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) today.

“When we decided to have the Integrated Resorts back in 2005, it was a bold move for Singapore – to reimagine our tourism landscape and to refresh our offerings. It was also a bold commitment from Las Vegas Sands – a major investment, underpinned by confidence in Singapore, and in Singapore’s future,” Wong said in a speech during the groundbreaking event for the MBS expansion project.

“This outcome that we enjoyed today, 20 years later, could not have been foretold. But we, together, made it happen. And I am glad that this partnership has flourished, and I am even happier that we are now taking it to the next level,” Wong added.

The new project for Marina Bay will introduce new attractions, including a rooftop destination open to the public and a 15,000-seat arena for world-class concerts and performances.

It will also include additional convention and exhibition space, further strengthening Singapore’s position as a leading MICE destination globally.

They will also build a new landmark, the NS Square, that will be a tribute to Singapore’s National Servicemen. It will be a venue for future National Day Parades and a space for major cultural and community events.

Also present at the ceremony were Las Vegas Sands’ co-founder Miriam Adelson and Chairman and CEO Robert Goldstein.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
