SGX launches iEdge Singapore Next 50 Indices to track emerging stocks

Available in market-cap weighted and liquidity weighted formats.

SGX Indices has introduced the iEdge Singapore Next 50 Indices, a new benchmark tracking the next tier of large and liquid companies outside the Straits Times Index (STI).

The indices use a rules-based approach based on free-float, market capitalisation and liquidity, and come in two versions: market-cap weighted and liquidity weighted.

They highlight the performance of the next 50 mainboard companies below the STI’s top 30, giving investors exposure to rising mid-cap stocks.

From January to August this year, institutional investors net purchased $425m in small- and mid-cap stocks, whilst daily turnover surged 50% year-on-year to $163m, driven largely by retail investors.

SGX expects this positive momentum to fuel demand for new market-tracking tools that capture evolving investment opportunities.

The new indices add to SGX’s growing suite of market and thematic benchmarks, supporting investor demand for tools that capture Singapore’s expanding stock market opportunities.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
