Singapore population hits 6.11 million

It was largely attributed to growth in the non-resident population.

Singapore’s population grew to 6.11 million in June 2025, a 1.2% increase from the previous year, according to the latest Population in Brief report.

The rise was largely attributed to growth in the non-resident population.

Over the past five years, Singapore’s population grew at an annualised rate of 1.5%, up from 0.5% in the preceding five years.

Authorities said the faster pace was mainly due to an increase in work permit holders in the construction sector, supporting major projects such as Changi Airport Terminal 5 and the expansion of public housing.

The citizen population rose slightly to 3.66 million, while permanent residents held steady at 0.54 million. Non-residents climbed 2.7% to 1.91 million.

Ageing continued to shape demographics. Citizens aged 65 and above made up 20.7% of the population, compared to 13.1% in 2015. Those aged 80 and above rose by about 60% over the past decade.

Citizen marriages fell 5.7% to 22,955 in 2024, though still above pre-pandemic levels. Births inched up 1.2% to 29,237, but the total fertility rate remained unchanged at 0.97.
