Singapore's EMA and JERA forge partnership to strengthen LNG supply chain

The collaboration will support Singapore’s natural gas security.

Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Japan’s JERA signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on reinforcing the liquified natural gas (LNG) procurement and supply chain for the two markets.

In a statement, the parties said they will share best practices and knowledge, and work together on LNG supply procurement and management.

EMA Assistant Chief Executive Soh Sai Bor said the partnership will support Singapore’s natural gas supply security and reliability, providing stable and competitive pricing for the power sector.

“Natural gas will continue to be a major part of our energy mix even as we pivot to and scale up lower carbon sources in the medium to longer term,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ryosuke Tsugaru, Senior Managing Executive Officer and Chief Low Carbon Fuel Officer at JERA, said the partnership will enable the parties to build a more “stable, resilient and cost-efficient” energy flow.

Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry signed a memorandum of cooperation on LNG Cooperation and Energy Transitions in October 2022.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
