Thomson Medical Group launches $5.49b Johor Bay mega development

Project features residences, hotel, retail, and lifestyle spaces.

Thomson Medical Group has announced the launch of Johor Bay, a 26-acre integrated mega development in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), with a projected gross development value of over $5.49b (MYR18b).

At the heart of the development is Thomson Hospital Iskandariah, a multi-disciplinary hospital with an initial 500-bed capacity, expandable to over 1,000 beds.

The 26-acre freehold Johor Bay development is strategically planned to integrate residential, healthcare, and lifestyle components.

Over nine acres are dedicated to high-end residences, alongside a two-acre site for a five-star hotel, serviced residences, commercial spaces, and lifestyle amenities catering to regional tourists and medical travellers.

The healthcare cluster, also spanning nine acres, is anchored by Thomson Hospital Iskandariah and includes specialist medical suites, aged care and assisted living, post-natal care, step-down facilities, and a Grade-A life sciences office tower.

Moreover, the hospital will start with 500 beds, expandable to over 1,000 to meet growing demand from the ageing population, chronic illnesses, and medical tourism.

Lifestyle and public spaces feature The Boulevard, a pedestrian avenue; The Canyon, a green corridor; and a marina promenade designed to activate the waterfront year-round.

Phase One, valued at $0.95b (MYR3.1b), will launch the hospital and a 47-storey luxury residential tower with 180 units featuring sky gardens, wellness amenities, and panoramic sea views.

The phase is expected to create over 1,200 jobs, supporting the JS-SEZ’s goal of 20,000 skilled jobs over five years.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
