Ministry of Law sets GenAI guidelines for legal sector

The framework applies to lawyers, students, and tech developers.

The Ministry of Law launched a guide on 6 March outlining general principles and good practices for using generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal sector.

The framework serves as a reference for using generative AI in legal work and for developing AI tools for legal applications.

It applies to lawyers in private practice, in-house counsel, paralegals, legal secretaries, legal technologists, project managers, law students, alternative legal service providers, and developers of AI tools for the legal sector.

The document builds on the ‘Model AI Governance Framework for Generative AI’ developed by the Infocomm Media Development Authority and the AI Verify Foundation.

Moreover, it complements guidance issued by Singapore’s courts on the use of AI by court users.

The guide is non-binding and will be updated as necessary.
