MPA facility set to train 10,000 in clean fuel handling

The MPA aims to develop the training facilities by 2026.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced its plan to establish a facility to train international seafarers in handling and operating ships using clean marine fuels.

The Maritime Energy Training Facility (METF) will comprise a decentralised network of training facilities anchored by a dual-fuel marine engine simulator for training.

Training at the METF will include safe handling, bunkering, and management of incidents involving alternative fuels, such as methanol and ammonia.

The MPA aims to develop the training facilities by 2026.

The MPA expects to train around 10,000 seafarers and other maritime personnel at the METF from now to the 2030s.
