Singapore signs MOUs to advance geospatial tech
It also launched its first Maritime Digital Twin.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has signed two memoranda of understanding (MOUs) to enhance geospatial capabilities and develop maritime talent.
MPA signed a three-year MOU with Jurong Port, Singapore Cruise Centre, Esri Singapore, Hexagon, Nika, TCOMS, A*STAR IHPC, and NUS’s C4NGP to explore geospatial technologies for risk management and port operations.
Geospatial tools leverage location-based data, including satellite imagery and sensor readings, to create 2D and 3D insights. These tools can also improve monitoring of sea level rise, strengthen preparedness, and enhance port operations' safety and efficiency.
A separate three-year MOU between MPA and the National University of Singapore (NUS) will establish maritime geospatial courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students, alongside a certification program for mid-career professionals. The program will cover mapping, geospatial analytics, and environmental modeling.
MPA announced these initiatives at the first International Maritime Geospatial Forum on March 26 during Singapore Maritime Week 2025.
In addition, it has launched Singapore’s first Maritime Digital Twin, a virtual model of the port designed to improve operational efficiency. Developed by MPA and GovTech, the platform enables real-time vessel monitoring and underwater hull inspections.
