Local tech expert predicts what will new iPhones look like

Check out some leaked photos of rumored new iPhones.

Apple is by now widely rumoured to be launching the new iPhone 5S (although some people are expecting it to be called iPhone 6) on 10 September, and possibly a new low-cost iPhone dubbed the 5C (“C” for colours) that will be specified similarly to the 5 or 4S (may look like the 5 but has the internals of the 4S).

Gadget sites speculate that the 5S would look the same as the 5 but include enhanced features such as an upgraded camera with a larger aperture and dual LED flash, greater storage of 128GB and definitely a faster processor.

Among the more radical features mooted is a fingerprint sensor built into the home button, which has led some to speculate that the “S” in the 2013 model will stand for Security, as opposed to Siri in the 4S and Speed in the 3GS.

To accommodate the more demanding needs of a fingerprint sensor, a Taiwanese technology analyst with a good track record of predicting Apple’s new products recently speculated that Apple would use a sapphire crystal home button that will be convex in shape instead of the current concave, plastic button.

But here's how MayBank KimEng regional tech analyst Warren Lau sees the new 2013 iphones:

on iPhone 5S specs –
4 inch display, quad-core processor (28nm), Global LTE, 10-12MP camera, finger printing security, 2GB onboard memory, storage from 16GB up to 128GB optional, and iOS7.

Warren’s predictions on iPhone 5C specs –
4 inch display, 3G only, lower density of memory and camera, without finger printing security and Siri, plastic casing. Likely to retail at USD400 without carrier subsidy.

The latest rumour that have started to make the rounds is that the 5S may also get more colourful, replicating the look of the iPod, and inline with the expectation that the low cost 5C will be multi-coloured as well.

Earlier in 2013, a US analyst claimed that he had been told by supply chain sources that the 5S will have eight colours. More recently, Japanese Apple blog Macotakara also claimed that the 5S will have more than three colours, including gold and green. In fact, rumours of a gold iPhone 5S are hotting up even as we write.

According to Maybank KE’s own source, the 5S will be available in six colours - white, grey, gold, red, purple and blue.
