Adoption rate of Singapore's tiered data predicted to soar quickly

It may even beat Korean telcos' 37% rate.

CIMB analysts think Singapore telcos’ ARPUs will be lifted by the rising take-up of tiered data plans, similar to the Korean telcos.

Here's more from CIMB:

The ARPUs of the Korean telcos have risen by 5-28% since tiered data was introduced, which coincided with the launch of LTE.

Adoption rates have soared to 37% in 1Q13from 7% in 1Q12. Similar to Singapore, Korean telcos used to offer unlimited data, which made it difficult to monetise rising data usage.

We think the adoption rate of Singapore’s tiered data will rise at a similar, if not, higher clip. Already, adoption of tiered data was 21% of M1’s postpaid customers, 23% of Singtel’s and 24% of Starhub’s in 1Q13, six months after their launch.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
