Don’t be duped by fake immigration websites, says ICA

The sites steal visa and passport numbers from victims.

Despite its overall benefits, the internet can sometimes resemble a dark alley, victimising unsuspecting visitors. Such was the case of the suspicious sites marked by the Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), saying that some sites were phishing for users’ visa numbers and passport numbers.

According to a press release by ICA, the public should exercise caution to avoid these fake websites.

“Members of the public are also advised to use only the official ICA website at www.ica.gov.sg for all informational and transactional needs concerning ICA matters,” the ICA said.

Meanwhile, the ICA reassured the public that the official website remains intact and that no data have been compromised.

“ICA takes a serious view of such fake websites as they undermine public trust in our system and processes. A police report has also been made. We will work to bring down these websites and will continue to monitor them,” the statement said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
