M1 launches 5G RedCap service with enterprise IoT in focus
The technology is intended to bridge the gap between older IoT standards and full 5G, according to M1.
Telecommunications provider M1 Limited has announced the launch of commercial 5G RedCap network services for enterprise customers in Singapore.
The new offering is part of M1’s rollout of its next-generation 5G-Advanced Network, aimed at enhancing connectivity solutions for businesses.
5G RedCap, or Reduced Capability, is a streamlined version of full 5G designed to support industrial and Internet of Things (IoT) applications that require less data throughput but demand high reliability, low latency, better energy efficiency, and broader coverage.
According to M1, the technology is intended to bridge the gap between older IoT standards and full 5G, enabling a wider variety of enterprise use cases.
The new services complement M1’s existing enterprise-grade 5G features, including network slicing, speed prioritisation, VIP access, and uplink/downlink carrier aggregation, capabilities designed to meet the varied connectivity demands across sectors.
M1’s network infrastructure includes island-wide standalone 5G (SA) coverage, as well as maritime 5G connectivity along Singapore’s southern coastline.
The RedCap service is powered by Nokia’s 5G RedCap technology, which enables operators to extend 5G to a broader range of devices, including low-power wearables and industrial IoT equipment.
To support device availability, M1 is partnering with Ransnet, a local manufacturer specializing in IoT and connectivity solutions. The collaboration aims to accelerate the development and deployment of RedCap-compatible devices tailored for the Singapore enterprise market.
