M1 lost 41,000 pre-paid subscribers in Q3

This pulled pre-paid mobile revenue down by 13.2% YoY.

During M1's results announcement, the telco said it lost 41,000 pre-paid subscribers after cleaning up its subscriber base in Q3.

According to UOB Kay Hian, M1 purged 14,000 post-paid and 47,000 pre-paid dormant subscribers in the quarter.

After the cleanup, the telco was still able to have 5,000 users sign up for their post-paid services. However, it differed for their pre-paid subscriber base, which contracted 3.4% YoY.

Post-paid mobile revenue rose by 5.4% but pre-paid mobile revenue fell by 13.2%.

For Q3, post-paid average revenue per user (ARPU) hit $55.40, whilst pre-paid revenue reached $10.80.

Amongst M1's post-paid subscribers, the share of users on tiered data plans grew from 76% last year to 80% this year. About 33% exceeded their data bundles, compared to 26% last year.

Average data usage also rose 23% YoY to 4.2GB, thanks to a boost from Upsized Data.

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
