Optus taps Kerry Schott to review Triple Zero outage

The review will determine the causes of the failure.

Singtel’s Optus has appointed Kerry Schott, chair of the Australian government’s Competition Review Panel, to lead an independent review into the network failure that disrupted access to the Triple Zero emergency service.

The review will determine the causes of the failure and assess the processes, protocols, and operations surrounding the 18 September incident.

It will also examine the operational management of Triple Zero calls and actions taken by Optus in response to the incident, including adherence to policies, procedures and legislative requirements.

Before the end of the year, Schott will report her findings to the board, which will then make her public report.

Schott is also a director at energy group AGL and chair of the Carbon Market Institute.

She has also served on several Advisory Committees and policy reviews, and has led a short review into Incident Management at Sydney Trains for the NSW Government Cabinet Office.
