Vietnam taps M1 to advance 5G tech use in maritime operations

It will also explore tele-remote control of equipment, enhanced AGV operations, and surveillance systems.

M1 Limited (M1), Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), and SSI Solutions have signed a memorandum of understanding to drive the adoption of 5G technology in Vietnam Maritime Corporation’s (VIMC) maritime operations.

The partnership will introduce advanced 5G-powered use cases to optimise operational efficiency and enhance the digital transformation of VIMC’s ports.

Additionally, the initiative will explore applications such as tele-remote control of equipment, enhanced automated guided vehicle operations, and advanced surveillance systems.

In late 2022, M1 revealed plans for an ambitious multi-year project that aims to provide comprehensive 5G standalone (SA) offshore coverage for the southern coast of Singapore, including the surrounding waters of the southern islands.

With support and co-funding from MPA and IMDA, M1 is deploying a 5G SA network to trial and develop new maritime 5G use cases under the MPA Innovation Lab and IMDA’s innovation and ecosystem testbed programme.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
