Grab bolsters driver and delivery-partners' digital knowledge

A separate programme with Singapore Polytechnic is also available for tertiary students.

Grab has teamed up with Microsoft to launch three training and development programmes that will empower up to 5,000 driver- and delivery-partners as well as 250 digitally inclined students to help them secure IT-related job and traineeship opportunities.

Driver- and delivery-partners wanting to upskill their digital knowledge will have free access to Microsoft’s e-learning digital literacy modules via the GrabAcademy in the Grab partner app, and those keen on beginning a software development career can also sign up for an eight-month train-and-place programme.

A separate pilot programme with Singapore Polytechnic is also available for tertiary students, where they will learn more about artificial intelligence and its application to real-world scenarios.

“As the leading technology player in the region, we have a role to play to improve digital inclusiveness and literacy in the communities we serve, as well as create more pathways for our driver- and delivery-partners who are keen to capture these opportunities,” said Yee Wee Tang, managing director of Grab.

The “Introduction to Digital Literacy” programme comprises six modules on basic computing and digital skills content such as internet usage, online productivity and communications tools, online security and safety, amongst others. Participants who finish this programme will receive a certification from Grab and Microsoft.

The programme has already been introduced in Indonesia and Vietnam, with more than 439,600 certifications issued to Grab’s partners in both markets since February 2020.

Grab will eventually extend the programme to driver- and delivery-partners in Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, and Thailand by mid-2021.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
