LTA taps Nokia to modernize CCTV across Singapore rail network

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) is upgrading the video transport and CCTV network across its critical rail infrastructure using Nokia technology, in collaboration with Hitachi Rail.
The modernization effort spans more than 50 train stations and aims to enhance real-time monitoring and public safety across a rail network that serves millions of passengers daily.
The upgrade will support advanced security operations by enabling high-resolution video feeds throughout the system.
Nokia is deploying its fiber-based Optical LAN technology, which includes hardened optical network units (ONUs) and future-ready optical line terminals (OLTs) capable of speeds up to 25 Gb/s.
The solution also includes IP/MPLS for dependable backhaul connectivity to LTA’s centralized Operations Control Center.
Compared to traditional copper LAN infrastructure, Optical LAN offers notable efficiency benefits, using up to 70% less cabling and consuming approximately 40% less power.
According to Nokia, this makes the system not only faster and more scalable but also more sustainable.
The enhanced capacity and reliability of the new video transport network are expected to strengthen LTA’s safety and security operations whilst providing room to accommodate growth in surveillance camera deployments and increasing bandwidth demands.
