SBS Transit pioneers smart bus braking system in Singapore
The project is scheduled for a pilot launch in H1 2026.
SBS Transit is developing Singapore’s first intelligent bus braking system to pilot in H1 2026.
The Responsive and Adaptive Braking System (RABS) is part of a partnership between Streamax and TNT Surveillance.
In conventional emergency braking systems, applying the brake often causes it to lock, leading to sharp, sudden jolts. RABS, in contrast, is designed to deliver a more controlled and gradual deceleration.
RABS will use radar sensors and cameras to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings continuously and will be designed to handle traffic.
In situations where a collision is unavoidable, RABS will automatically respond by moderating the braking force to lessen the impact, reduce the risk of injury, and minimise vehicle damage.
In addition, RABS will also transmit real-time data directly to the Bus Operations Control Centre.
