Singapore-registered container ship collides with Chinese vessel off Guangzhou

Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) says it received word on 26 October of a collision in waters off Guangzhou, China, between the Singapore-flagged container ship WAN HAI A17 and the China-registered vessel HAI LI 5.

According to information provided by Wan Hai Lines, WAN HAI A17 remains in stable condition with no injuries reported amongst its 23 crew members. No pollution has been reported.

However, it was reported that HAI LI 5 had sunk. The Chinese authorities are conducting search and rescue operations, with two of the 15 crew members still unaccounted for.

The WAN HAI A17 is being held in port as Chinese authorities investigate. MPA says it is in contact with both Wan Hai Lines and Chinese officials and will also conduct its own investigation.
