Singapore firms lead ASEAN in sustainability initiative growth

26% of ASEAN organisations increased their sustainability efforts in 2024 than last year.

Singapore businesses, alongside Thailand, led ASEAN sustainability efforts, with 32% reporting year-on-year improvements in sustainability initiatives.

In its report, Kyndryl noted that 26% of organisations in the region have increased their sustainability efforts over the past year.

The report also revealed only 28% of ASEAN businesses fully use technology for sustainability, trailing the 40% global average, despite the majority prioritising it in their strategy.

Meanwhile, only 22% of organisations see technology’s dual role in cutting carbon footprints and advancing sustainability, with most focusing on internal impacts like server virtualization.

In addition, whilst 75% of businesses report that sustainability goals and initiatives are incorporated into existing reporting processes, only 4% fully leverage data for strategic planning and decision-making.

Moreover, 37% believe AI will significantly impact their sustainability goals, yet 54% of organizations face challenges in measuring the environmental impact of AI.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
