CASA’s decision on extending grounding of Tiger Airways possible today

Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) confirmed to SBR that it will work all day long today, July 6, to determine if Tiger Airways ban from flying to Australia warrants extension.

“The decision may come possible today [July 6]. If not tomorrow,” said CASA communications manager Peter Gibson in an e-mail sent to SBR early this morning,

“We are still investigating the recent incidents and working through a set of complex safety issues that must be addressed before we can decide when and how Tiger may get operational. We are having constructive talks with Tiger and they are co-operating,” he added.

At yesterday’s meeting Mr. Gibson noted that Tiger and CASA discussed all the relevant issues and CASA outlined what was required. He refused to detail though CASA’s assessment on how Tiger Airways is doing so far to meet the requirements.

"We're working to get Tiger back in the air with best safety. Not yet decided how long suspension may last, least till weekend," Mr. Gibson said.
