Changi Airport deploys first fleet of fully driverless baggage tractors

Two autonomous vehicles now link T1 and T4, with the fleet set to hit 24 by 2027.

Changi Airport has deployed its first fleet of fully driverless autonomous tractors for airside operations.

Two autonomous tractors are currently operating between Terminal 1 and Terminal 4, transferring passenger bags between the terminals’ baggage handling areas.

Another six will be deployed to a different route between Terminal 2’s baggage handling area and aircraft stands later this year to support baggage operations under a CAG-SATS collaboration.

Each tractor is equipped with over 10 sensors and cameras, allowing it to navigate the airside environment in all conditions. The vehicles are also monitored from a control centre, where a remote operator can intervene if required.

The fleet is expected to expand to 24 vehicles by 2027, with future deployments planned to tow cargo and equipment in addition to baggage.
