K2 Strategic Pte. Ltd. wins accolade at SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025

The company sets a new benchmark in data centre innovation with the Johor Bahru Project.

K2 Strategic Pte. Ltd. successfully delivered two groundbreaking 40MW (IT load) hyperscale data centres in Johor, Malaysia. The project represents a significant milestone in data centre construction, having been completed within an ambitious nine-month timeframe. For redefining large-scale infrastructure deployment, it was recognised in the Data Centre - Data Centre category at the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025.

From the outset, K2 Strategic was faced with the challenge of constructing a state-of-the-art facility on a greenfield site whilst navigating the complexities of a new geographical market.

Securing a 275kV high-voltage power supply, implementing an advanced cooling system for high-density workloads, and ensuring smooth regulatory approvals were amongst the critical hurdles. To address these challenges, the project team leveraged a collaborative approach that brought together government agencies, suppliers, consultants, and local partners.

By prefabricating critical infrastructure off-site, K2 Strategic significantly accelerated the construction timeline by 40%, reduced labour costs, and improved overall quality control.

Instead of relying on vast amounts of water for water-based cooling systems, the facility employs a highly efficient air-cooled system. “This sustainable approach aligned with our commitment to environmental responsibility and also met our client's stringent cooling and power usage effectiveness (PUE) requirements, demonstrating the viability of the latest direct expansion cooling technology in data centre operations,” the company added.

With over 3,000 individuals employed during the construction phase and a fully local operations management team, K2 Strategic has demonstrated its commitment to fostering inclusive economic growth in the region.
