Lenovo PCCW Solutions wins AI - Transportation category at SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025

The company scored the accolade with SMRT Trains Ltd for the Track Access Management System.

Lenovo PCCW Solutions (LPS) has been honoured with the AI - Transportation award at the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025 in recognition of its groundbreaking Track Access Management System (TAMS) for Singapore’s SMRT Trains Ltd (SMRT). This accolade underscores the significant impact of LPS' innovative AI-driven solution in transforming rail reliability and operational efficiency to deliver world-class smart transport experiences.

TAMS has set a new standard in rail reliability and operational efficiency, leveraging AI-powered digital systems to automate and optimise maintenance during engineering hours. This ensures seamless operations and critical infrastructure availability, catering to the high standards and service quality that daily commuters have come to expect from the SMRT.

In its quest to enhance safety and streamline track access management, the SMRT sought the support of LPS to develop TAMS. This digital platform centralises the management of track access for maintenance and engineering tasks across various rail lines, replacing outdated manual processes with real-time updates and data on track availability. TAMS leverages AI and data analytics to analyse and optimise weekly maintenance tasks, such as rail replacement and signalling work. The system checks for conflicts in track access requests and prioritises track repairs based on infrastructure conditions, significantly improving efficiency and safety.

“Receiving this award is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation at LPS. We are delighted to share this recognition with our esteemed client, SMRT. This accolade reflects our collective efforts to make travel smarter, safer, and more reliable – ensuring peace of mind and leading smart mobility experiences for millions of Singapore passengers every day. Together, we will continue to innovate and lead the way towards smarter AI solutions for all.” said Mr Eng Chuan Puay, Head of South East Asia, LPS.

The SMRT operates an extensive rail network, including the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL), Circle Line (CCL), Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), and Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT), covering approximately 180 km with over 120 stations. Serving more than 2 million passenger trips daily, they manage 300 rail subsystems, with trains running every 60 to 180 seconds during peak hours.

First implemented on the NSEWL in 2021, TAMS saves around 30,000 man-hours per year and has increased track access time by 50%. Building on this success, LPS expanded the system to the CCL in August of 2024. Together, the NSEWL and CCL lines have maintained the highest standards of rail reliability, achieving over 1 million Mean Kilometres Between Failures (MKBF).

“Together with our tech partner Lenovo PCCW Solutions, the implementation of Track Access Management System (TAMS) has helped SMRT in saving more than 30 thousand manhours per year. Through its process safety interlock design, TAMS has also helped to ensure the safety of our operations and maintenance staff by eliminating human errors,” said Mr Alvin Kek, SMRT Senior Vice President, Rail Operations.

The latest version of TAMS introduces new features that benefit both operators and passengers, with an upgraded interface that is more intuitive and easier for staff to use. TAMS now also supports multiple languages, including English, Mandarin, and French, catering to the diverse needs of the workforce. With built-in safety interlocking to validate track authorisation and prevent human error during maintenance works, including traction power shutdown and restoration, TAMS also helps to ensure that worker lives are protected at all times. Additionally, advanced AI-powered geospatial capabilities can be applied to even more areas, such as real-time tracking and optimisation of train route planning.

LPS' innovative solutions and unwavering commitment to excellence have not only enhanced the SMRT's operations but also positions Singapore as a global leader in smart mobility and urban transit. Through cutting-edge AI technology, LPS continues to offer clients and partners new ways to excel in an increasingly AI-driven world, paving the way for smarter, safer, and more efficient solutions in transportation and beyond.
