StarHub has been recognised at the Singapore Business Review Technology Excellence Awards 2026, winning the Automation - Hospitality & Leisure category for its integrated digital solution. The solution was designed to enhance traffic management, strengthen public safety, and improve operational efficiency across events.
In Singapore, where high-profile and large-scale events are common, it is critical for event organisers and venue operators to maintain secure, efficient, and sustainable operations.
One of the client’s key challenges was managing high volumes of vehicle and human traffic, especially during peak event periods. Vehicle access at loading bays was largely manual, with staff physically verifying permits and authorised personnel before granting entry. This process was time-consuming, inconsistent, and prone to human error.
As a result, congestion built up quickly, particularly when multiple vehicles arrived simultaneously whilst crews were moving equipment. The manual workflow created bottlenecks at loading and unloading bays, leading to delays, longer waiting times, and increased reliance on manpower.
In addition, limited visibility across the venue made it difficult for operations teams to monitor crowd movement and detect potential risks. Without real-time monitoring and proactive alerts, teams were unable to respond quickly to incidents or manage crowd flow effectively, impacting both public safety and operational control.
To address these challenges, StarHub partnered with the client to co-create a smart, safe and sustainable digital solution that connects cameras, access control systems, and car park gantries with workflow automation.
The solution automated vehicle access workflows through licence plate recognition. Vehicle validation, entry, and dwell time monitoring are now fully digitalised — replacing manual checks with a faster, more consistent, and more secure process. This significantly improves traffic flow, reduces congestion, and ensures controlled access across the event premises.
Beyond automation, the platform provides real-time visibility of on-ground operations. With integrated crowd monitoring and intelligent detection capabilities, the system can identify crowd build-up and suspicious activity instantly, triggering alerts for on-duty personnel to respond immediately. This enables teams to manage vehicle and human traffic more effectively whilst strengthening public safety.
The impact for the client has been significant, with improvements in traffic flow, operational efficiency, and security control. Vehicle processing time has been optimised to just 10 seconds per vehicle, whilst waiting time has been reduced to approximately 5 minutes. This has enabled smoother vehicle movement and reduced congestion, especially during peak periods.
These improvements have also contributed to sustainability. Shorter waiting times minimise vehicle idling, lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions, thus supporting more sustainable event operations.
Overall, the client now operates with greater visibility, control, and efficiency, creating a better experience for everyone on the ground. Visitors can move through the venue more smoothly, with greater confidence and a stronger sense of safety.
Designed with scalability in mind, the solution can also be applied across other high-traffic environments such as transport hubs, retail developments, and large integrated facilities.
