CapitaLand opens $1.4b hub at Singapore Science Park

Geneo adds 180,600 sq m of space as part of the precinct's redevelopment.

CapitaLand Group has officially opened Geneo, a $1.4b life sciences and innovation hub at Singapore Science Park, marking a key milestone in the redevelopment of the precinct, according to a company statement on 22 May.

The development spans three properties at 1, 5, and 7 Science Park Drive, with a total gross floor area of about 180,600 square metres (sq m), including around 80,000 sq m of laboratory and innovation space. Geneo is jointly owned by CapitaLand Development and CapitaLand Ascendas REIT.

The opening ceremony was officiated by minister for manpower and minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology in the Ministry of Trade and Industry Dr Tan See Leng, alongside government representatives, tenants and partners.

CapitaLand said Geneo is designed to support life sciences, biomedical research, and innovation, with wet labs, lab-ready floors, flexible workspace, and smart building systems to support research and commercialisation.

Tenants include the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Barry Callebaut, Chugai Pharmabody Research, Henkel and NSG Bio, spanning biotechnology, food innovation, and pharmaceutical research.

The development also includes Bridge+ Geneo, a flexible workspace and co-working laboratory facility developed with NSG Bio.

The facility spans more than 3,200 sq m and is designed to support start-ups, researchers, and corporates.

CapitaLand said the precinct has achieved BCA Green Mark Platinum and WELL Core Gold certifications across all three buildings, with 7 Science Park Drive also attaining Super Low Energy certification.

The wider Singapore Science Park redevelopment includes additional residential and lodging projects such as LyndenWoods and Citadines Science Park Singapore, aimed at expanding the mixed-use ecosystem.

CapitaLand will also launch the SSP-ACE! Programme with CapitaLand Hope Foundation and Access Singapore to provide STEM exposure and mentorship for students from underserved backgrounds.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
