Could the circuit breaker measures be back? Government won't rule it out

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said the government will remain vigilant in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

An increase in COVID-19 cases has been recorded in the past month, leading the government to implement stricter measures.

In a press conference of the multi-ministry task force May 4, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said authorities had not ruled out the possibility of reimposing circuit breaker measures.

"I think it is important for us to clarify that we we have not ruled out the possibility of a circuit breaker," Gan said.

Gan, who co-chairs the task force, added that the cooperation of all Singaporeans with the recently announced stricter measures against COVID-19 could help avoid a circuit breaker situation.

"But we can not rule that out and that is why we will continue, have to remain vigilant, monitor the situation, and adjust our measures as we go along," Gan added.

The government, on May 4, imposed longer stay home notices for travellers coming to Singapore, and reduced the allowed attendance in group meetings, office work, and events.
