IRAS to send one million tax bills directly
Most taxpayers need not file.
About one million taxpayers will receive their income tax bills directly from mid-March under the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore’s (IRAS) Direct Notice of Assessment initiative for Year of Assessment 2026.
IRAS said more than two million individual taxpayers are expected to benefit from the No-Filing Service this year, meaning most will not need to submit an income tax return but must still verify that their income details, deductions, and relief claims are accurate.
Taxpayers who need to make changes can amend their tax bill within 30 days from the bill date or file their return by 18 April, whilst those still required to file include employees whose employers are not under the Auto-Inclusion Scheme and self-employed individuals whose income is not pre-filled.
The tax agency said income tax must be paid within one month from the bill date, with a 5% late payment penalty imposed on unpaid tax unless the taxpayer is on an approved instalment plan.
IRAS said it collected more than $5m in penalties from close to 37,000 taxpayers for late or non-payment in YA 2025, and encouraged taxpayers to use GIRO, which offers up to 12 months of interest-free instalments.
