iX Biopharma accelerates WaferiX portfolio commercialisation with Orion Labs deal

iX will commercialise its WaferiX drug delivery using Orion’s healthcare network in the county.

iX Biopharma Ltd will speed up moves to commercialise its WaferiX portfolio through its partnership with US pharmaceutical firm Orion Specialty Labs.

The company entered into a capital-light joint venture, which will allow it to tap Orion’s network in the United States.

iX will hold retain strategic control with 75% stake in the future joint venture whilst Orion will hold 25%. As a capital-light partnership model for iX, Orion will fund new manufacturing equipment and working capital.

The biopharma’s WaferiX patented drug delivery technology enables medicines to dissolve quickly under the tongue for predictable dosing.

This approach can be used in pain management, hormone therapy, weight management, and longevity medicine, and underpins iX’s portfolio of 22 pharmaceutical and 7 nutraceutical products, iX said.

The partnership is also part of iX’s move from a research-focused company into a commercial enterprise for the world healthcare market.
