7 in 10 employers mull hiring talent for sustainability roles in the next two years

Companies are also open to training current employees on sustainability.

Seven in 10 employers are mulling hiring talent focusing on sustainability initiatives in the next two years, a survey by NTUC LearningHub has found.

Apart from hiring, most companies (69%) are also somewhat open to training their current employees on sustainability, whilst some are very open (24%) to the idea.

Companies said their employees must have skills in Environment and Social Governance (44%), Carbon Footprint Management (40%) and Sustainable Business Strategies (39%).

If employees have these three expertise coupled with critical core skills such as problem-solving (52%), creative thinking (44%), and collaboration (44%), employees said companies will be able to achieve sustainability initiatives better.

Sustainability initiatives should likewise be handled by a dedicated sustainability committee, according to 59% of business leaders, whilst 39% said the  C-suite Management should oversee it.

“With the growing call to integrate sustainable practices into business models, companies will inevitably be looking for talents to help them develop products or adopt new technologies to support their sustainable initiatives,”  Tay Ee Learn, NTUC LearningHub’s Director of Technical Skills Product Division, said.
 
“Employers could consider recruiting new talents or developing their current workforce by equipping them with the right skills. For jobseekers, they can ride on this emerging trend and enrol in relevant training courses to equip themselves with the necessary skills as companies embarking on their sustainability journey will be starting to look for talents in this space,” Tay added.
