7 out of 10 Singaporean professionals careful on their facebook status

Are they afraid that employers might be snooping on them?

A generic poll conducted by Robert Walters found that majority of respondents worldwide recognised the importance of maintaining a professional presence online. Its findings showed that 74% or 24,480 respondents agreed that maintaining a professional online presence was crucial.

This was followed by 20.4% or 7,200 respondents finding it not important and only 10.2% or 3,600 respondents indicating that it was not something they think about.

In Singapore, 69% of professionals feel that it is important to maintain a professional image online, compared to the global average of 74%.

The results included a total of 35,280 responses from visitors to  Robert Walters websites around the world and were collated between mid-March to early May this year.

A total of 19 countries were polled. Within Asia, countries included China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and Korea.

The poll also included Luxembourg, Belgium, Brazil, South Africa, Switzerland, United States, Australia, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany and Ireland.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
