9 in 10 firms offer employees additional benefits: MoM survey

More employers are providing ad-hoc flexible work arrangements.

A recent survey by Ministry of Manpower revealed that more firms are now offering their employees with benefits beyond the statutory requirements.

For one, 92% of employers were generous to allow for compassionate leave, while 74% and 40% allow marriage leave and study leave, respectively.

Meanwhile, the study also took note that 76.9% of employers offered flexible work arrangements (FWA) on an ad-hoc basis. Common forms of flexible work arrangements include giving workers unplanned time-off, which 75% of the firms do, allowing them to work part-time, and report earlier or later for work.

"Based on firm-level data, resignation rates were lower among firms that offer a larger number of formal flexible work arrangements to their employees," MoM said.

More so, resignation rates were also lower in firms with higher proportion of full-time employees on a 5-day work-week and have a higher proportion of full-time employees with longer annual leave entitlement.
