Almost 7 in 10 Singaporeans believe their bosses affect their job satisfaction

Could this be the reason why they resign?

According to the Kelly Global Workforce Index (KGWI), employees in Singapore indicate that their direct supervisors are a key influencer when it comes to job satisfaction and engagement.

The survey found that 69 percent of respondents believe their direct manager or supervisor has a significant impact on their job satisfaction and engagement.

The latest findings from the Kelly Global Workforce Index (KGWI) also show that only twothirds (67 percent) of respondents who switched jobs in the past year are happy in their new roles.

The survey canvassed responses from more than 120,000 respondents in 31 countries, including approximately 3,000 in Singapore.

Mark Hall, Vice President and Country General Manager Kelly Services Singapore said direct managers and supervisors have a pivotal role in influencing job satisfaction and retention, but many are not heeding the warnings.

“It is sometimes said that employees don’t leave companies, they leave managers. What employees are saying is that they want their managers to open up with them and better explain responsibilities and expectations.”

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
