Employers told to embrace skills-based hiring and recruit from emerging economies
People in new countries are highly mobile and offer valuable skills.
Employers should focus on skills rather than degrees or experience, including hiring from emerging economies, according to Jobstreet.
In its Decoding Global Talent 2024 Singapore report, Jobstreet noted that people in emerging economies are highly mobile and offer valuable skills and potential to fill workforce gaps in aging and shrinking economies.
However, the “paper ceiling” is slowly eroding among companies as they begin to recognise and value skills, experience, and potential over just academic credentials, but this change is happening at a slow pace.
To achieve a skills-based workforce means organisations must adopt a new approach to collecting and interpreting data about people's skills beyond degrees and formal qualifications, which may include a cultural shift.
The report also pointed out the shift from traditional training methods to strategic upskilling and reskilling programs and ensure that ensure that employees can take sufficient time to pursue needed learning.
