SMRT wins LTA’s $599.5m Serangoon-Eunos bus package

The five-year contract will commence on 13 June 2027.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the Serangoon-Eunos bus package to SMRT Buses under a five-year contract valued at an estimated $599.5m.

SMRT will operate the services from the new Kim Chuan Bus Depot and manage Eunos Bus Interchange, Serangoon Bus Interchange, Woodleigh Bus Interchange, and Sims Place Bus Terminal.

The contract will begin on 13 June 2027, with LTA holding an option to extend it by two to five years after the initial term.

The authority said SMRT received the highest overall score for its proposal, which offered cost savings compared with the current contract. The bid also included plans for electric bus operations and maintenance, as well as workforce development.

The package is currently operated by SBS Transit and covers 26 bus routes running from Hougang Bus Depot.

LTA said employees working under the SBS Transit package will be covered by industry employment guidelines.

SMRT will also be required to offer affected workers terms that are no worse than their existing conditions.

Employees may choose to join SMRT or be redeployed by SBS Transit where possible.

The tender was called on 19 December 2025 and assessed under a two-envelope process, with quality proposals evaluated before price bids were opened.
