Gov’t to review Progressive Wage Credit Scheme

The scheme provides up to 75% support for wage increases given to eligible lower-wage workers.

The government will review its Progressive Wage Credit Scheme (PWCS) to enhance support for lower-wage workers in 2024, Senior Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad announced.

The PWCS provides up to 75% support for wage increases given to eligible workers.

Mohamad said the government will reveal the details of the enhanced scheme in the Budget announcement.

In 2022, the government disbursed $1b of PWCS funding to 70,000 employers, resulting in 345,000 employees receiving wage increases.

The median monthly wage increase supported by PWCS was about $300.

In addition, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has developed a Progressive Wage Portal for lower-wage workers to help them understand the Progressive Wage Model (PWM).

Apart from the PWCS, the government will also review the local qualifying salary for lower-wage workers.
