Majority of Singaporeans deem slang as inappropriate at work: survey

One-third of respondents use slang for quicker communication

Singaporeans expressed disdain for the use of slang words in an office environment, yet more still use slang in the workplace, according to a survey by Preply.

Nearly three-fourths of the 1,500 citizens surveyed in the city-state think using slang words at work is inappropriate despite 85% revealing they use slang words at work.

A closer look shows that about half (47%) use slang words with co-workers while just 12% use it with their bosses.

Home and social events are the most appropriate place to use slang according to the majority of the respondents, while the workplace ranks third.
