Only 6 in 10 workers feel equipped for career advancement

Singapore has the lowest confidence level in APAC.

Only 64% of workers in Singapore believe they have the skills to advance in their careers, according to data from ADP® Research Institute’s People at Work 2023: A Global Workforce View.

According to the research, Singapore has the lowest confidence level in Asia Pacific (APAC) alongside Australia.

When it comes to skill sets, Singapore prioritises strategic communication skills over technical skills.

Singaporeans also focus on management skills (41%) people skills (38%), and data analysis skills (34%).

“To tackle the problem of low confidence amongst Singapore workers, companies need to build a culture and environment where employees feel empowered and supported about advancing their careers. This will look like an environment where open communication is encouraged; where regular feedback on employees’ performance is provided; where achievements are recognized; and where relevant development and mentorship programmes are provided,” Yvonne Teo, Vice President of HR, APAC, ADP, commented.
